Modifications & Upgrades

With suitable maintenance, offshore cranes can remain serviceable for decades. Their systems, however, remain a function of their original date of manufacture.

New safety systems, new condition monitoring systems offering maintenance economies, changes to the role of the crane on the installation – many factors can conspire to call for mid-life modification or upgrade to the crane.

Sparrows and Energy Cranes have an extensive track record in saving clients the cost of crane replacement by devising and implementing comprehensive systems upgrade programmes. This can be especially attractive where the client owns several cranes of the same type and approximate age, such that upgrade development costs are defrayed over several units.

Crane types for which upgrade packages have already been designed and implemented include offshore workhorses such as the Linkbelt 238, NCK Eiger, Stothert & Pitt, Priestman Sealion and Bucyrus Eyrie MK60 – not to mention the American Aero, Titan, Weatherford and Houston Systems ranges for which Energy Cranes are the design authority.
