Riser & Pipe Handling Gantry Cranes

Gantry cranes are the safest and most cost-effective means of handling horizontal drill pipe and risers. Optional ancillary equipment can produce a totally hand-free system for added safety.

Gantry crane systems provided by Sparrows Offshore meet Fédération Européenne de la Manutention (FEM) standards and comply with DNV and ABS regulations for marine lifting equipment.

Gantries and shear legs are fabricated from rigid welded box section steel of 350N/mm² grade or better for strength, lightness and reduced corrosion exposure. All pins and axles are made of stainless steel for durability and ease of maintenance.

Traditional hydraulically-powered rack and pinion drives are preferred by Sparrows for long and cross travel, though electric inverter drives with fluid couplings can be specified.

Hoist power to the spreader beam is from a pair of hydraulic hoist motors with synchronised gear, brake and clutch functions. The spreader beam can be fitted with inter-changeable toe hook, gripper, twist lock or magnetic handlers appropriate to riser or pipe loads.

The crane can be operated from a weatherproof hi-level cabin for optimal visibility or from a pendant or radio control facility if preferred. The hydraulic power unit is normally integral/on board the crane.

All Gantry Cranes supplied by Sparrows Offshore are supplied with as-built drawings, operating and maintenance manuals, relevant certification, full after-sales support and optional lifetime maintenance.
